Hyderabad: Autocracy to Integration

After India got independence in 1947..most of the princely states too were acceded to India...except the wealthiest and most powerful,Hyderabad!!!

The then Nizam..Mir Osman Ali Khan.the richest man ever in history..chose for a seperate Hyderabad..which he would maintain with his Muslim army "Razakars"!!

The atrocities of Razakars knew no bounds!! Countless Hindu women became victims of rape and kidnapping by Razakars.Villages were looted,many went to jail and braved the cruelties perpetuated by the oppressive administration. Due to the activities of the Razakars, thousands of Hindus had to flee from the state and take shelter elsewhere.Tens of thousands of Hindus and 'progressive' Muslims are thought to have been killed.

Home Minister Sardar Vallabhai Patel..wanting to avoid 'Balkanisation'..planned to annex Hyderabad.In a highly strategic operation codenamed "Operation Polo",the Indian Army invaded the state and fought with the Razakars for 5 days..until Hyderabad was finally annexed!!!

That was when the people of Hyderabad(Telangana+Hyd-Karnataka+Aurangabad) got their actual independence..!!!
