The day dedicated to honour one of the greatest languages..to commemorate the Telugu poet Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy
Some lesser known facts about Telugu:
1)Telugu language was previosuly also known as Tenungu or Telungu
2)Telugu,ranks third by the number of native speakers in India,thirteenth in the list of most-spoken languages worldwide...
3)It is the largest member of the Dravidian language family.
4)It is one of six languages designated a classical language of India
5)Telugu has been voted as the 2nd best script in the world by International Alphabet Association.
6))Speaking Telugu Language activates about 72000 neurons in your body, highest for any Language in the world proven by Science.
7)Telugu language has the most number of Saamethalu i.e., idioms and proverbs.
8)Rabindranath Tagore has once stated that Telugu is the sweetest of all Indian Languages.
9) 16th century Italian Explorer Niccolo de Conti found that every word in Telugu language ends with vowels, just like those in Italian, and hence referred it as “The Italian of the East”.
10) Sri Krishnadevaraya visited his temple in Srikakulam and paid homage to the deity. It was here that Krishnadevaraya wrote the literary classic, Amuktamalyada at the order of the Lord Andhra Vishnu who had said
“Des Bhashalandu Telugu lessa”
"Telugu is the greatest among the state’s languages”
and ordered Sri Krishnadevaraya to adopt Telugu as the official language of his province.
11)Many bhajans and keerthanas are written in Telugu and being used all over South India.
12)Unlike any other language, the poems, called "padhyaalu" in Telugu follow some special rules, called "Chandassu"which makes it extremely rhyming , gives a beautiful pronunciation and excellent meaning. This is the reason why many medieval Tamil and Malayali poets had sought Telugu literature and hence even today, in most of the south indian temples,many bhajans and songs are in Telugu. E.g. One of the widely renowed Thyagaraja keerthanas seen in Tamil temples are in Telugu only.
